2004 Pichon Longueville Baron
Pauillac - Bordeaux
- France
Of course, at this early stage very fruit-driven. Bombastic
fruit
bouquet!
Tannic, fruits with no end and quite unbalanced and shaky on the
palate. As several german taster correctly stated, 2004 Baron
reminds more of a young californian wine. I confess that I am not
overly impressed by this
wine at the moment.

2003 Pichon Longueville Baron (2)
Pauillac - Bordeaux
- France
Elegant cedar, cassis bouquet. Classic
Pauillac body with a
wonderful balance, terrific firm structure, fine fruit and pure
elegance. Still a bit shy but this is no
wonder at such a young age. I really liked this ´03 because of
its aristocratic
charisma.
Score: 91/100. Consider to start drinking in 3-4 years.

2003 Pichon Longueville Baron (1)
Pauillac - Bordeaux
- France
2003 Pichon Longueville Baron was my first wine of the tasting and I am usually a little bit conservative on my scoring
for the first wine. Yes, I
should have added a "+" sign, as indeed 2003 Pichon
Longueville Baron will probably be even greater in 5-8 years.
In general, this is a classic discussion topic: should one score the
current showing of the bottle or rather try to assess its potential
at maturity? Hopefully,
the 2003s will age well so please send me an invitation
for a 03 Pichon Baron tasting in 10 years and I will come and
verify my predictions!

2002 Pichon Longueville Baron
Pauillac - Bordeaux
- France
WOW, terrific and such complex nose with notes of nougat, black
fruits and a touch of portwine. What a length and depth! Almost
hedonistic. 2002 Pichon Longueville Baron is simply delicious.
I recommend to buy a few cases. This wine didn't get the
highest absolute score, but 2002 Pichon Baron was for my WOTN......Bravo!Score:

2001 Pichon Longueville Baron
Pauillac - Bordeaux
- France
Moldy nose with a hint of prune. Bulky and broad fruit flavors.
Intense fruit sweetness, but 2001 Pichon Baron lacks complexity and
structure. Not a very great wine.
Score: 88/100

2000 Pichon Longueville Baron
Pauillac - Bordeaux
- France
Terrific bouquet. Unbelievably focused and precise texture.
Everything is in place like its outstanding purity/ balance/
elegance/ structure/ complexity and polished
tannins. 2000
Pichon Baron is a great wine!
Score: 94-95+/100

1998 Pichon Longueville Baron
Pauillac - Bordeaux
- France.
Moldy nose. Nice to drink but not outstanding. A lot of acidity
and rough tannins. This bottle of 1998 Pichon Baron finishs on
mixed berry and green flavors.
Score: 89/100

1996 Pichon Longueville Baron
Pauillac - Bordeaux
- France
Flowery and feminine bouquet. Nicely maturing flavors of strawberry and
raspberry. The 96´s are always nice to drink at the moment. But the ´96 Pichon Comtesse was
definitely, much better. This 1996 Pichon Baron seems to lack a bit of finesse and power right now.
Future will tell.
Score: 90/100

1989 Pichon Longueville Baron
Pauillac - Bordeaux
- France
Tobacco, leather and chocolate. But bottom-line, disappointing!
I'm getting cautious with the 1989 Baron as it recently showed
quite poorly at two separate tastings in Germany. The famous german winemaker Mr. Weil who
also attended to this tasting in Wiesbaden suggested that "maybe
1989 Pichon Baron wine had a sulfur problem which makes this wine unstable".
