Tasting notes on Chateau Lafite Rothschild
- Pauillac
The 1855 Classification of the Wines of the Medoc
Region

1990 Lafite Rothschild - Pauillac,
Bordeaux, France
1990 Lafite Rothschild : Very youthful purple aspect. Floral (jasmine),
vanilla and sugarish scents, not quite open yet. On the
palate, the wine appears to be very
fruity,
balanced and
elegant. A
beautiful 1990 Lafite, but somewhat "low profile", especially after
the 1990
Mission Haut-Brion. Drink 2010 - 2015 94/100

1994 Lafite Rothschild - Pauillac,
Bordeaux, France
1994 Lafite Rothschild : is completely different from the 1994 Mouton.
Expressive bouquet with scents of spices, pepper, leather. 94 Lafite
is quite difficult to judge on the
palate. The tannins are a bit
harsh and
deeply structured. Surprisingly this wine shows limited flavours, which are usually Lafite's trademark. Most of the participants had the feeling that this wine was still too young to drink at this stage.
I'll wait a couple of years before uncorking the next bottle. Possible maturity: 2015 or
more. At the present time 1994 Lafite is not very pleasant. Today's rating is close to 86 but this wine has presumably a potential for a better score (90/100?) in 5 or 10 years.

1999 Lafite Rothschild - Pauillac,
Bordeaux, France
1999 Lafite Rothschild : Only 40% of the total production were selected for the First
wine of 1999 Lafite Rothschild. Noble looking, spicy,
vanilla
oak aromas with toasty nuances.
Austere but
delicate nuances of violets and blueberries. Athletic
Lafite with a lot of potential. Wait 2010 - 2015. 92/100

2001 Lafite Rothschild - Pauillac,
Bordeaux, France
2001 Lafite Rothschild :
Tasty flavours of raspberry, blackcurrant and roasted meat. The
texture
of 2001 Lafite is absolutely remarkable; a perfect grip, gaining gradually up in power. 2001 Lafite
Rothschild has an excellent medium to fully
body and nicely
balanced
extraction of dark fruit. Very pure and concentrated Lafite. A benchmark for the Pauillac
area in 2001. 93/100

|
2002 Lafite Rothschild - Pauillac,
Bordeaux, France
2002 Lafite Rothschild :
Astonishing and
delicate minty flavours, chocolate and orange peel. 2002 Lafite has
delicate tannins. The
body is marvellously engraved with a
mineral touch underlining the density of the
body. Perfect mid
palate with a long and streamlined
structure. Another
brilliant Lafite! 93/100

2003 Lafite Rothschild - Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
2003 Lafite Rothschild :
Very
deep crimson hue. Super intense and complex
aromas of blackcurrant,
floral,
soft spices and sandalwood coming out of the glass. 2003 Lafite has a fantastic
texture with a silky multi-layered
structure. 2003 Lafite is a masterpiece on the move! Smooth with an incredible complexity. Remarkably 03 Lafite manages to hold the freshness of the fruit in a way no other 2003 wine can only approach. Voluptuous and dazzling
finish,
round and in perfect
balance. In a couple of words; 2003 Lafite is simply one of the best wines I have recently tasted. 100/100!

2004 Lafite Rothschild - Pauillac, Bordeaux, France
06/2007 - Great breeding on the nose with elegant
oak and an attractive aroma of red fruit purée.
Well-focused fruitiness on the palate. This is powerful wine, but
one with many delicate aspects thanks to rich, yet elegant tannin
that enhances the wine's intrinsic fruitiness. Excellent,
well-balanced aftertaste that finishes a touch mineral. Perhaps less
complex than Latour and Mouton, but this Lafite is superb!
