Tasting notes on Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou - Saint Julien

> 1966 Ducru-Beaucaillou, Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France

1966  Ducru Beaucaillou - horizontal tasting June 2001: nice ruby colour. The nose is quite different from the other samples of the vintage: sents of flowers, mint, santal wood. In mouth, the wine appears to be extremely suave, charming and accomplished. It's the perfect time to drink it. 89/100

> 1976 Ducru-Beaucaillou, Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France

1976 Ducru Beaucaillou : the level is a little bit low - top shoulder. Very light hue, rather characteristic of many 76's - transparent ruby turning orange on the edge. The nose, is very smooth with nice overripe fruit aromas with an underwood (humus) undertone. The wine on the palate develops nicely but the body is a little bit fluid. There are no more tannins left and jammy fruits dominate the mouth. Short finale on a liquorice feeling. The bottle is still very pleasant, but reminds me a very thin and a fragile old lady, which is likely to break its neck at any moment... I liked this etereal style very much, so far from today's modern and over-concentrated kind of wines. 88/100.

> 1990 Ducru-Beaucaillou, Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France

1990 Ducru Beaucaillou : nice bright ruby colour. Interesting nose (raspberry, violet, liquorice). Nice and balanced, this is an elegant and rather feminine wine. Lacks a bit of structure to compete with the top wines of the vintage. Drink 2005 - 2010. 88/100

> 1999 Ducru-Beaucaillou, Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France

1999 Ducru Beaucaillou : funny wine! Acid and oak on the nose but completely different on the palate. Integrated and rounded tannins nicely balanced by currant. An elegant and discrete 1999 Ducru Beaucaillou with a structure that reminds me a bit the 1999 Cheval Blanc. 88/100
