1990 Canon la Gaffeliere : underwood flavours (autumn leaves, moss) which are starting to cover 1990 Canon la Gaffeliere's remaining red fruit. Generally smooth but tannins are still very present - almost a little dry. Great fruit maturity but the body lacks a bit of acuracy and complexity. I think it is time to start drinking 90 Canon la Gaffelière as it's seems to be currently reaching the top of its maturity cycle. 87/100. 

 

07-april: Splendid luminous ruby hue. Delicious aromas with smooth notes of cocoa, berries and soft spices. A suave, mouth filling Canon la Gaffeliere. Seductive, balanced finish without any hard edges. Long and round. If only all the 1999s could come out so nicely!

 

1999 Canon la Gaffeliere : 40% Cabernet Franc harvested shortly before the hail poured down on the St Emilion region. Berry nose with hints of wood and alcohol. Closed and austere structure with roasted tannins. 1999 Canon la Gaffelière is a bit difficult to assess at this stage. Will possibly turn out to be an excellent wine in a couple of years (2006 - 2010). 86/100 

 

60% Merlot - 36% Cabernet Franc - 4% Cabernet Sauvignon
2000 Canon la Gaffeliere : light raspberries nose. Gradual attack in the mouth, leading smoothly to fine red fruits. However, 2000 Canon la Gaffelière seems to lack depth and power, is somewhat one-dimensional and a little diffuse. 86/100
