Tasting notes on Chateau Ausone - Saint-Emilion

Saint-Emilion Great Classified Growth (revised 2006)
Ausone - First Great Classified Growths - A

> 1998 Ausone - Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux, France

1998 Ausone : Very deep crimson colour. On the nose, 1998 Ausone is subtle and very complex - liquorice, vanilla, spices, plum... On the palate, the texture of Ausone is incredibly tight, together granulous and soft. The fruit fills up the mouth gradually and powerfully with a slight wooden touch by the end, but everything is marvellously and rigorously balanced. A total demonstration of Alain Vauthier's talent and of the incomparable quality of Ausone's soil. So smooth though a little bit austere, which is Ausone's unique trademark. What a dimension! 97/100.
