Tasting notes on Chateau l'Angelus
- Saint Emilion
Saint-Emilion Great Classified Growth (revised
2006)
Angelus - First Great Classified Growths - B |
1993 L'Angelus - Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux,
France
1993 Angelus:
A dark color and a
wine tasting rather young for its 12 years. Very blackberry marmalade on the
nose, with a
rich and ultra-ripe
fruity
texture, though sadly just slightly corked. Still, a very fine effort from a difficult
vintage.

1995 L'Angelus - Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux,
France
1995 Angelus: Ruby colour. The
nose explodes into a stew of autumn
ripe fruits (prune, cooked pears). Tannins are well
integrated, but
the
finish ends on a curious impression of jammy roasted fruit. A
kind of lactic feel on the
palate gives me the impression of an
over-extracted 1995 Angelus. I'm not totally convinced by this wine. 87/100.

2000 L'Angelus - Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux,
France
2000 Angelus:
Rather dark color with intense dark cherry and
toasted
aromas
and flavors similar to
Pavie. Full bodied, almost New World but a bit
alcoholic.
Finish
was impressive however. I really liked this wine. One participant noted a “very
tannic wine that one can chew. ” 3 votes out of 12"
