Muscadelle
Along with
Sauvignon and
Semillon, Muscadelle is a minor variety used in the production of dry and
sweet white wines in
Graves,
Barsac and
Sauternes regions.
Muscadelle is a
delicate grape variety has an intense, flowery character and is usually used in small quantities - no more than 5% - to add extra bouquet to
sweet wines. With its slightly acid
structure,
Muscadelle gives
floral and
elegant flavours with musky characteristics. In
Sauternes -Barsac, the
Muscadelle berries mature rapidly and similarly to Sémillon, its grapes are sensitive to
botrytis. Elsewhere in the World, it is planted in small quantities in California and in Australia. |
