Situation and soil
about Saint-Estephe region
The Saint-Estèphe wine commune is located halfway between the city of Bordeaux and the estuary of the Gironde, right after
Pauillac. Saint-Estèphe's geographic location is the most northern out of the six communal
AOC of the
Medoc. Geologically,
Saint-Estèphe's soil is characterized by a remarkable diversity: limestone, gravels, echinoderm fossils and quartz mingled at the surface to a
light sandy earth, which gives a typical smoothness to the wines.
